As much as we hate to admit it, a real estate agents life can be full of distractions. From answering emails to preparing open houses and listing presentations, it’s easy to lose sight of the things we want to accomplish on a certain day, especially when we spend most of our days in front of the computer.

So here are five productivity tips for the distracted real estate agent who wants to break free from it all.

Create and prioritize a To-Do list and stick to it.

Focus on finishing tasks and accomplishing goals that would give you the most satisfaction. Create a daily to-do list that prioritizes these tasks.

The key is to break down big, generalized tasks into small ones so that they become more specific and doable. This is also a good way to identify which tasks you can delegate to your real estate assistant.

Get rid of these distractions.

The best way to be productive is to eliminate, albeit temporarily, all the things that distract you. Turn off your phone, disconnect the internet (or block your favorite yet useless websites), close your office door.

Do everything you can to separate yourself from the distractions and focus on accomplishing your daily to-to list.

Set a time for your email and social media.

Answering emails and updating your social media accounts are perhaps two of your most time-consuming activities, and you don’t even notice it! Time passes by quickly when you’re clicking on links with magnetic titles. Eliminate this distraction by setting a specific amount of time for both tasks.

Dedicate 30 or 45 minutes to answering your emails and responding to your Twitter followers or Facebook fans and no more. When the time is up, send those emails and politely excuse yourself from any online conversations.

Forget multi-tasking. Seriously.

It doesn’t work. It may sound good and make you look like a highly productive real estate guy, but doing a million things at once will likely result in you not finishing any task at all. So what do you do instead?

Focus on one task at a time. You can use the pomodoro technique to help you finish task faster. Pick a specific task, set a timer for 25 minutes, do nothing but that task for 25 minutes, stop when the time is up, rest for 5 minutes, and then go at it again for another 25 minutes until you’re done.

Get some rest.

When you begin to feel tired, get some rest. Take a 30-minute nap to recharge your batteries and then continue with your work. Taking a nap has been shown to improve worker performance and increase concentration.

Although technology has done so much in helping us run our real estate business easier to, it also provides an endless array of diversions that challenge our productivity. Break free of them using these productivity hacks for real estate agents.
